Way, way back, we rescued those two little dogs you see above and alongside, Alfy and Mondoe. They lived to the ripe old age of 21 and 22! (And I like to think that the way we fed them had something to do with that....)

As foodies ourselves, my partner and I didn't want to feed them kibble...and so we began to feed them meat. But we realised that this didn't give Alfy and Mondoe all they needed, so I went hunting for a simple way to make complete and balanced meals...at home. (Alfy and Mondoe wrinkled up their noses at all that prepared bought stuff!)

I had trouble finding something that really fit the bill, so hello Bestie....

Along the way though, things changed for us. Our human household went plant-based...and then that raised the question of what about the dogs???

There is a clear sustainability problem feeding dogs a high meat diet... but what was the alternative? I began to do some research...and I began to have a rethink about the role that meat protein plays in the diet.

Fast forward a year or so and here we are with Planet A. Like most other dog parents, there's no way I want to feed dogs anything that's going to compromise their health. With Planet A, I'm confident we've got fresh alternatives to meat, that are still complete and nutritionally balanced.

To get this far, I've been working with Planet A nutritionist, Dr Anna Sutton. Anna spent 18 years leading the Kemin Nutrisurance Pet Food Division across the Asia-Pacific region. Kemin is a global ingredient manufacturer for human and pet foods.

Anna launched her own consulting business in 2020 and we've been working with Anna ever since. (She specialises in nutrition and formulation development across wet, dry, fresh, treat and supplement formats, the development of oxidation and microbial shelf-life strategies across multiple product formats, and product trouble shooting.)

As the Planet A Product Director she's the queen of all things nutrition. Her older dog Rosie is also one of our ace testers!
